Charles R. Bohnenberger of Lake Hiawatha, NJ passed away at The Hearthstone at Wildwood in Oxford, FL on Tuesday, July 7, 2026. Born on June 7, 1933 in Newark, NJ, Charles was one of 5 siblings and a graduate of Irvington High School.
Charlie was a proud United States Marine, enlisting and serving his country in the Korean War. After his service, Charlie was a longtime resident of Lake Hiawatha, and he worked at Ray Publishing for over 40 years until his retirement in 1997.
Charlie married the love of his life, Angela (affectionately known as Maryann), in 1958 and they were married for 62 years prior to her death in 2021. It brings the family solace to know that Charlie and Angela are now reunited in Heaven together for eternity.
His titles as Husband, Dad, and Grandpa were the ones he held most important. He enjoyed taking his grandchildren on trips to Turtle Back Zoo and hosting sleepover bashes which included making them pancakes for breakfast and ice cream cones for dessert. He cherished his many trips to Wildwood, NJ with his own children, and then with his grandchildren.
At 93, Charlie was predeceased by many others including his wife Angela, his parents, and sisters. He had a long life, well lived, and left an enduring mark on all the lives he touched, which were many.
He is survived by his beloved children Lynn Cronin and her husband Dennis, Chuck Bohnenberger and his wife Theresa, and Carolyn Pampillon and her late husband, Gus; his treasured grandchildren, Kelly, Colleen, Zachary (fellow USMC Veteran), Matthew, Marissa, Tony, Tina; his adored great-grandchildren, Ian and Sophia; and many nieces and nephews.
Hesitant to dog ownership at first, Charlie ultimately loved and cared for many dogs throughout his life including Sandy, Bo, Max, and PeeWee. He leaves behind beloved grand-dogs: Ferris, Murphy, Millie, Baby Ruth and Rebel. They will miss sharing food with Grandpa Charlie, who was always keen to sneak them a piece of his dinner from the table.
Charlie was a gift to all who knew him, especially his family. We will miss him dearly.
Semper Fi Marine.
