Wildwood commissioners approved an additional boat on Lake Deaton for the Sumter County Dragon Boat Club.

Commissioners gathered on Monday reviewed an amendment asking for another vessel. After a successful season with South Sumter High School and Wildwood Middle High School, the club asked for an amendment to the contract approved in January. They requested that a 10-person boat, more suitable for training students, be added.

The amendment was passed on a 4-1 vote, with Mayor Ed Wolf opposed due to potential issues with space.

“That boat ramp is half the size that Lake Miona’s boat ramp is,” he said.

Wolf raised similar concerns when the commission approved the club’s request to park boats at Lake Deaton in Dec. 2025. He previously suggested that the club use Lake Miona during their initial pitch to use Lake Deaton in Oct. 2025.
