It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of Loma Marion Oliver, a beloved wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and friend. She made her home in The Villages, FL. Loma left this world on July 16, 2026, at the age of 90, passing peacefully at her home alongside family after a valiant struggle with Alzheimer’s.
Born on June 8, 1936, in Trenton, New Jersey, Loma was the cherished daughter of the late John Nixon Smith and Thelma Elizabeth Smith Harrop (Hagaman). Her early years in Trenton shaped a lifetime of resilience and grace, qualities she carried with her through life’s many journeys.
Loma was a proud graduate of Trenton Central High School, class of 1954. She began her career as a secretary before dedicating her life to her family. In 1956, she married the love of her life, Richard Everett Oliver, and together they recently celebrated 70 years of a marriage defined by love and unwavering support. Their life together was a testament to enduring partnership and steadfast devotion.
Loma’s life was marked by her commitment to her faith and community. She was a former member of the First Congregational Church in Manchester, NH where she held the title of Administrative Assistant while singing in the choir and acting as a lay minister. She is a current member of North Lake Presbyterian Church in The Villages, FL where she worked in the office and sang in the choir. Her roles in both churches exemplifies her dedication and work ethic. Loma was also a respected Auxiliary Member of the American Legion in both New Hampshire and Florida.
Known for her quick wit and sense of humor, Loma brightened the lives of those around her, even during the most trying times. Her poise and grace were evident in all she did, and her capacity for care and empathy was boundless. Loma’s creative spirit shone through in her handmade holiday pine cone wreaths, bringing warmth and cheer to many. She enjoyed cruising and traveling with her husband including Europe.
Loma is survived by her loving husband Richard. She was a devoted mother to her three sons, Richard Nixon (Angela) Oliver of Fort Lupton, CO, Ronald Brian (Jeffery) Ellstrom-Oliver of Lake Mary, FL and Matthew John (Melanie) Oliver of Manchester, NH and her eight treasured grandchildren; Rachel, Richard, Andrew, Daniel, Hillary, Landon, Nolan and Madden. Her sister, T. Joyce Crenshaw of The Villages, FL was a significant influence in her life ever since she was a young child. Additionally, she leaves behind numerous nephews, nieces, cousins and dear friends. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her step-brother, Raymond Harrop and others who went before her, leaving a legacy of love and strength that will continue to inspire those who knew her.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the First Congregational Church, 508 Union St. Manchester, NH 03104; Designated to the Music Ministry, a cause dear to Loma’s heart.
The Oliver family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff and caregivers at Sumter Senior Living with special thanks going to Amber for her extraordinary care and compassion. Additionally, the services provided by Compassionate Care Hospice went over and above the families expectations. Special thanks to Jennifer, RN for her empathy and grace.
Loma Marion Oliver touched the lives of many, and her memory will forever be cherished by those who were fortunate enough to know her. She leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, and unwavering kindness.
