A 52-year-old woman was arrested after a dispute that began at a local bar escalated into a destructive, violent rampage at a home in The Villages.
Haide Lissa Orig Brewer was taken into custody early Saturday morning on a charge of domestic battery at a residence on O’Brien Place in the Village of Dunedin.
According to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to the home after a man called 911 to report that Brewer had “destroyed the house” and broken his finger. The victim told deputies the conflict started as a verbal altercation around 9:30 p.m. Friday at a local bar before carrying over to the home.
The victim stated that once they were back at the house, the argument got out of hand and Brewer began destroying furniture, prompting him to leave the residence for about 45 minutes to let things cool down. When he returned, the argument resumed on the home’s screened-in porch. Shortly after 12:30 a.m., Brewer allegedly struck the victim in the hand with a broom, leaving his right thumb bruised, red, and swelling.
The victim provided deputies with a video recording of the altercation that corroborated his account. When deputies walked through the home, they noted the interior was in “complete disarray,” with shattered glass and broken, displaced furniture scattered throughout the residence.
Brewer initially fled on foot before law enforcement arrived but returned a short time later, claiming she had just gone for a walk. She was taken into custody but declined to speak with deputies without an attorney present.
She was booked at the Sumter County Detention Center and subsequently released after posting a $100 bond.
