A native of Guatemala was arrested in Sumter County after deputies caught him driving a van without a valid United States driver’s license.
Oscar Armando Orozco, 23, who listed a residential address in Laredo, Texas, was driving a white Ford van with a Texas license plate at about 9:11 p.m. Friday. A Sumter County Sheriff’s Office deputy observed the van fail to come to a complete stop behind the white stop bar at the intersection of County Road 478 and South Market Boulevard in Webster, according to an arrest report.
The deputy initiated a traffic stop at South Market Boulevard and County Road 478A. Upon making contact, Orozco indicated he did not speak English. Using basic translation, the deputy asked for a driver’s license.
Orozco handed the deputy a Texas identification card and admitted he did not possess a valid driver’s license anywhere in the United States. A computer check confirmed he was not licensed to drive in any of the 50 states. The query also noted he had no prior criminal history.
Orozco was issued a traffic warning for the stop sign violation and arrested on a misdemeanor charge of operating a motor vehicle without a valid license.
He was booked at the Sumter County Detention Center and subsequently released after posting a $500 bond.
