Habitat for Humanity teams up with Noon Rotary Club for first project of the year

Habitat for Humanity of Lake-Sumter collaborated Friday with the Rotary Club of The Villages Noon to conduct their first project of the year in Lady Lake.

The project was to provide extensive landscaping, siding repair and painting for a home in Lady Lake.

Habitat for Humanity Director of Development Danielle Stroud said the project, along with an additional 25 projects, were possible with the financial support of Publix Supermarket Charities.

Homeowner Joseph Allen said he was very grateful and thankful for the help he and his wife Peggy received, since he was unable to do the renovations due to two upcoming surgeries.

Habitat for Humanity and volunteers started work at 8 a.m. and were slated to complete the renovations at 1 p.m.

“We’re super grateful for all our volunteers,” said Stroud in regards to the club that dedicated their day to helping. She said that the generous funding of Publix Supermarket has also been a big help for the project.

“Without both of these pieces, we won’t be able to do this,” she later stated.

Stroud explained the process for how homes are chosen for preservation and repair.

Using a referral system, Stroud says preservation and repair goes to those with financial need for assistance. Homeowners would then discuss with Habitat for Humanity and give top priorities that the group can help fix.

Rotary Club member Rex Dugan said that even though he doesn’t usually like painting, Friday’s project was very fun for him. He later stated that he loved to work with his group to volunteer.
