Man who tried to lie about identity arrested at Subway at Grand Traverse Plaza

Kevin Lanard Jones

A man who allegedly tried to lie about his identity was arrested at Subway at Grand Traverse Plaza in The Villages.

Kevin Lanard Jones, 33, of Ocala, had been spotted driving a black Mercury Milan at 3:32 p.m. Thursday at the intersection of State Road 44 and Powell Road, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office. A deputy noted that the driver and passenger windows appeared to be tinted darker than the law allows and initiated a traffic stop in the Subway parking lot.

Jones matched the description of the driver of the vehicle from previous stops by the sheriff’s office and Wildwood Police Department. Jones’ license had been suspended indefinitely in 2016 for failure to pay support.

However, the driver insisted he was not Kevin Jones and provided the deputy with a false name. A Rapid ID fingerprint scanner was brought to the Subway parking lot and Jones’ identity was confirmed.

He was arrested on charges of fraud and driving while license suspended. He was booked at the Sumter County Detention Center and released after posting $2,500 bond.
