Police were able to track down a man who stole a carton of cigarettes from Circle K, thanks to an alert clerk who wrote down a license plate number.

The man entered the store at 413 S. U.S. Hwy. 27/441 in the early morning hours on Feb. 10 and took a Red Bull from a cooler. He then went to the counter and asked the clerk for a carton of Newport Menthol cigarettes. As the clerk was ringing up the merchandise, the man fled with the items and got into a waiting car, according to an incident report from the Lady Lake Police Department. The clerk was able to take down the car’s license plate number. Thanks to the license plate and video surveillance, police were able to obtain a warrant and arrest 25-year-old Kendall Wayne Wilbanks of Wildwood. He was booked at the Lake County Jail on $3,000 bond.
