Three people were critically injured in an accident Friday morning in rural Sumter County.

A 2001 Ford Expedition driven by 18-year-old Jakala Skelton of Floral City had been eastbound at 11:15 a.m. on County Road 48 when her vehicle traveled into the westbound lane, according to an accident report from the Florida Highway Patrol. She had a passenger in the vehicle with her, 16-year-old Angel Banks.

Her vehicle collided head on with a 2001 Dodge Ram pickup driven by Lindsey N. Rawls, 27, of Bushnell.

Sumter County Fire & EMS arrived on the scene of the accident and spent 37 minutes extricating one of the occupants from a vehicle.

All three were transported by ambulance to Ocala Regional Medical Center.
