Two Ohio women were among three people killed in a crash early Saturday morning in Sumter County.

A 42-year-old Lima, Ohio woman had been driving a car shortly before 4 a.m. northbound on State Road 471 at Webster when a 42-year-old Winter Haven man in a southbound vehicle traveled into her lane of traffic, according to an accident report from the Florida Highway Patrol. The two vehicles collided head on. Both drivers died at the scene of the crash.

A 54-year-old woman from Lima, Ohio who had been a passenger in the Ohio woman’s vehicle, was transported to a local hospital where she died from injuries suffered in the crash. Another passenger, a 47-year-old man from Lima, Ohio, suffered serious injuries.

The investigation into the crash forced the closure of the roadway for a few hours Saturday morning. The Sumter County Sheriff’s Office and Sumter County Fire & EMS also responded to the scene.
