Woman says she tried to steal from Wal-Mart to get money to go back home

A 26-year-old woman admitted to attempting to steal a mattress topper to try to raise money to get back home.

Mollie Swanton of Holmes Beach took the item Thursday from Wal-Mart in Summerfield and then attempted to return it for cash, according to an arrest report from the Marion County Sheriff’s Office.

The item was valued at $59.96. She told a loss prevention officer she needed the money to get back to Holmes Beach where she lives.

She was arrested on a charge of retail theft and booked at the Marion County Jail.
