JULY 30, 2013- WEEK 1- POST SEASON PLAY
Last week Mother Nature delivered a heavy soaking, this week it was some heavy heat. But the CFL players were able to sweat through their games which was a much better result than last week’s cancellation.

HARLAN EVENS UP SEASON 1-1 WITH METLIFE:
ROOKIE ED KORDUS LEADS HARLIES’ OFFENSE
Harlan (8-2) took the first step to a Post Season Championship by beating CFL Regular Season Champs MetLife (7-3) 19-11. Harlan had been beaten by MetLife during the regular season 13-9 which made this win a little sweeter. Rookie Ed Kordus cracked two doubles with four rbi’s for winning pitcher Jim Glover.
Jim Creed had four hits for MetLife.
PERKINS FLATTENS SOFTBALL’S ‘R’ GAME 15-2;
BELLISARIO AND REEDY SWINGING HOT BATS
Perkins (7-3), one of the CFL Post Season favorites, sent a message to the league with a resounding win over a tough Softball’s ‘R’ Game (6-4) squad. Earl Bellisario and John Reedy lead the Perkies with four hits apiece while Ralph Furbush stroked three hits with three ribbies for winning pitcher rookie Bob Fleming who tossed a six hitter.
Chick Cicatelli and Milt Hersey hammered doubles for the Gamers.
CAREPLUS FIVE RUN 6TH SINKS MULBERRY;
GENE LLAFET DOUBLE, TRIPLE TOPS STATS
CarePlus (3-7) threw its stethoscope into the ring for a shot at the Post Season Title by edging Mulberry Integrative Medicine (0-9) 14-13. Gene “Gene the Hitting Machine” Llafet led the CP Pirates with three hits including a two and three bagger and two rbi’s. Sub pitcher Bob Nutoni nailed the “W”.
Paul Noyes notched three hits and two rbi’s for the MulBees.
BABIARZ BAKES IHOP 16-10;
MORIARITY BIG DAY AT PLATE
Babiarz (5-5) upset IHOP (6-4) with the help of Ed Moriarity’s four hits that included two doubles and three ribbies. Carlos Lopez posted the win. The Babs will be swinging for a second post season win next week and a possible shot at the Title.
Lead off hitter, Denis Hodge, led the Hoppers with three hits.
3 AMIGOS TAKES DOWN CEBERT;
HILDE HAMMERS OUT 3 DOUBLES
3 Amigos (5-5) took a 12-0 lead and held on for a 12-8 victory over Cebert (3-7). Mark “The Hammer” Hildebrand headed the Amigo charge with four hits, three doubles and a couple of ribbies. Sub pitcher Gary Arnold picked up the win.
Tom Winegarden, Bob Marano and sub Jim Crabtree all tripled for the Cebbies.

This week’s featured game:
8:30 CAREPLUS @ HARLAN FIELD 2
One of these teams will be 2-0 and have a really good chance of playing for the Post Season Title. This is the only game that is a match up of two winners from last week.
3-7 CarePlus will be in a tough spot facing up against 8-2 Harlan.
The CP Pirates’ offense is led by Bob Roth and Dave Oatley (who will not be playing) while rookie Ed Kordus and Ed DeMaio spearhead the Harlies.
On paper, Harlan is a prohibited favorite with the home field to boot, but the CarePlus guys drink a lot more beer.

Bob Tomlinson fundraiser: CFLers have generously contributed $1400 to date. We will continue to take contributions next Tuesday. If you haven’t chipped it, please do so next week- the final week.
Possibly- not definite yet- the CFL might have all Saddlebrook fields on Tuesday morning in the Fall. If this materializes, we will be playing at 9:00- fields 2, 3, and 4; and 10:30- fields 2, 3, and 4.
