In the village of Anatevka, Tevye, a poor milkman, attempts to instill in his five daughters the traditions of his tight- knit Jewish community in the face of changing social mores and growing anti-Semitism in Czarist Russia. Tevye and his wife Golda, two of the most memorable roles in musical theater, will be portrayed by Bill Krone and Billie Thatcher. Lynn Wallace makes her stage debut as the matchmaker with the daunting task of finding matches for Tevye’s “untraditional” older daughters played by Linda Berthiaume, Mollie McCarthy and Carolyn Hoffman. Broadway Bound director Carol Greenfield, the cast of 40 Villagers, and 4 Villages Charter School students will have the audience crying tears of laughter, joy, and sadness as life in the villages unfolds as precariously as a Fiddler on the Roof.
The Marc Chagall-influenced sets and costumes transport the audience to 1905 where musical director/ choregrapher Sue Schuler uniquely stages this celebrated score. It includes “If I Were A Rich Man, “Matchmaker” and numerous production numbers such as “Traditions” and “Sunrise, Sunset” and the inimitable bottle dance …. never before staged by Villagers!
Although Greenfield and Debra Heath-Strickland have collaborated on musicals, such as the Villages Musical Company’s “Chicago” and Questar’s “White Christmas”, this is their first co-production. A portion of the proceeds will benefit Honor Flight and American Cancer Society.
Bring the entire family to the Savannah Center on Oct 25-29 for Fiddler on the Roof.
Tickets may be purchased at all Villages Box Offices and thevillages.net/boxoffice.
