A group of young journalists from the Czech Republic and Slovakia presented to a packed house at the La Hacienda Recreation Center on Thursday morning. The presenters spoke about their lives abroad and gave a cultured insight into their worlds.

The five journalists, documentarians, and media personnel all provided details about their lives in the Czech and Slovak Republics, ranging from their interests in golf, tourism, and their families, to their jobs and roles in their respective Rotary Clubs.

Although the two countries were formerly known as Czechoslovakia, a peaceful dissolution in 1993 produced the two separate republics. There now exists a friendly rivalry between the two countries, and presenters of the GSE Rotary Group echoed some of the most common talking points of both sides.

“We have better looking women in Slovakia!” joked Klaudia Gregušová, a newscaster and host of a popular Slovakian television program. “We have more famous tennis players, like Martina Navratilova” said Jan Bohdal of the Czech Republic.

All members of the group (including regional redactor for a Slovakian publication, Adriána Tasračka Antošková, renowned documentarian Olga Špátová, and group leader Martina Dlabajova) were grateful for their time in America. The entire presentation was filmed by Olga who hopes to create an upcoming short film on her experiences here in America with the Rotary Club.

Martina, an avid golf player, excitedly announced the opportunity to play her first round of golf in the United States today in The Villages and gracefully thanked her Rotary hosts. “When I was younger, I would always save the best part of my meal for last. This is our last presentation in the United States, and it was the best. The Villages is the best!”
