“Oorahs” filled the air in Spanish Springs today, where over 150 Marines made their way to Margarita Republic to celebrate the Corps’ anniversary. Sunday marked the the Corps’ 238th anniversary, and thousands of Marines celebrated all over the world. The Corps’ anniversary, which happens each year on November 10, was celebrated in The Villages a day after the recognized anniversary date on account of venue availability, but that didn’t stop them from having a great time.

“The owner of the restaurant, Sandy, is a Marine, so that’s why we have chosen this venue for our anniversary for the last 8 or 9 years,” said Jack Maiz, the co-founder of the “DeLong” Detachment.

The group celebrated with a large cake, giving the first slice to the youngest Marine present, and the second slice to the oldest Marine present. This year, the oldest Marine present was 91 years young.

Marines located in Afghanistan, the United States, and all over the world recognize November 10th, 1776, as the official day of inception.
