The State of the County address will be presented at 9 a.m. Tuesdayin the Lake County Commission Chambers of the Lake County Administration Building, 315 W. Main St., Tavares.
The theme for the State of the County message this year is “Real Florida…Real Close.”
County Commission Chairman Leslie Campione will outline the successes of the past year during the presentation.
“The State of the County Address will place an emphasis on job creation, sports and eco-tourism, and the health of our local economy, including the correlation between private sector economic activity and the County’s responsibility to provide essential services,” said Campione.
Included as part of the event will be the inductions of Linda Watts and Betty Sexton into the Lake County Women’s Hall of Fame.
Watts, a Lake County native, was a teacher at local schools for 20 years and was the Chairman of the Leesburg Arts Festival for 14 years. She has volunteered her time for more 40 years to instill in the youth of Lake County the importance of volunteer work and of giving to others. Throughout the years, she has been recognized as a pillar of volunteerism, including being recognized by the U.S. Congress in 2008 with a Congressional Recognition Plaque, and was chosen by People Magazine in 2009 as one of the “All-Stars Among Us.”
The family of the late Betty Sexton, who resided in Leesburg, will be present to honor her as she is inducted into the Lake County Women’s Hall of Fame. Among her accolades, Sexton, along with her husband Jack, founded Daysprings Ministry in Fruitland Park, which assists residents who are in need of food and counseling. During her life, Sexton aided hundreds of thousands of families through the Ministry.
The State of the County presentation will begin promptly at 9 a.m., followed immediately by the County Commission meeting at 10 a.m.
