Serenades, a new Memory Care Assisted Facility Living Center owned and operated by the Sonata Group, opens its doors Monday morning. The new center, located at 2450 Parr Drive in The Villages, boasts state-of-the-art facilities that put it at the forefront of assisted living facilities in terms of technology, quality of living, and care for clientele.

“We’re here to sooth families’ worries and become an extension of the family,” said Janet Soto, the executive director of the new facility. In development since May 2013, the facilities began construction in June with a target open date of this Monday. A half-dozen residents will move-in to the new facility on Monday, including Margaret Scarfia, who celebrates her 103rd birthday on the same day. The facility houses 45 separate units in three neighborhoods, offering six different floor plans to accommodate a wide array of tastes and lifestyles, and golf-cart accessibility.

“We are different than any other facility. We are the only standalone memory property in The Villages…We offer the latest innovative technologies to promote the safety and well-being of residents” said Soto of the state-of-the-art amenities. The property boasts wireless emergency call systems with staff checkins, in-room motion detectors to ensure clients safety, and double-barrier exits with roam alert systems. In addition, 24-hour security cameras monitor each exit and self-contained courtyard.

Unlike many other facilities, Serenades offers purpose-built designs, which essentially mean that quarters are designed specifically for those that have memory impairment. All of this is done in a home-like setting, a point emphasized consistently to stress the importance of maintaining a smooth transition from home into assisted living facility.

“The lifestyle transition must be completely smooth. The neighborhoods look like homes, with dining areas and living rooms. Our team organizes hours based on preferences. We know if [a client] doesn’t want to get up at 8 AM, they reserve the right to get up later. We offer anytime dining to accommodate their schedule. Through consistent team members, we establish a relationship with continuity that is an extension of the family” said Soto of the person-directed care provided by team members.

Serenades is able to establish the familiar connection before ever admitting clients to their facilities by conducting extensive interviews with family members. This enables staff to learn the history, interests, and daily routines of potential clients.

“We want to ensure that our engagement is consistent with the level of care that they need,” said Soto.

To address the medical needs of their clientele, the facility offers limited nursing services (LNS) on a 24-hour basis. Nurses, medication, and management are accessible around the clock, and the facility is a one-stop for all needs (e.g., bathing, grooming, dressing, etc.).

“The most important thing is that this is a home away from home,” said Soto of the new facilities.
