The man accused of fatally wounding a father of four in Wildwood, will be back in Sumter County Court later this month.

Quentel Jermaine Williams is scheduled to appear before Judge William Henry Hallman III on Jan. 14. He is being represented by a public defender in the 5th Judicial Circuit.

Abdelwahab Kandah was fatally wounded Aug. 10 in the parking lot of Kamal’s Mini Mart on 327 Kilgore St. in Wildwood. Kandah owned the store and had driven his van there that night to pick up the day’s earnings and deposit them in the bank. Video surveillance shows the exchange between Williams and Kandah took 12 seconds.

Store employees interviewed this summer remembered Kandah as a “great boss” and dedicated family man who often brought his young daughter with him when he made the rounds between his two Wildwood convenience stores.

Williams, who was 23 at the time and was already a convicted criminal, went on the run after the shooting. Ultimately, he had friends ferry him to the home of his father in Orlando.

Upon arriving at his father’s residence, father and son got into a heated argument, according to an arrest affadavit from the Wildwood Police Department.

“That was stupid, why did you do that?” the father is said to have asked his son, according to police records.

Quentell Williams’ reply to his father was to the point:

“Because I can’t get a job.”

Williams is charged with first-degree murder and attempted robbery with a firearm. He could face the death penalty if convicted.

He continues to be held without bond in the Sumter County Jail.
