Finally, some warm weather to play ball in!
Marlins 19 – Dodgers 7
The Marlins had the hot bats with 31 hits to the Dodgers 16 hits. Winning pitcher Bob Fleming helped his own cause with a 4 for 4 performance, along with Duane Broschat and David Blandford. Don Brozick ripped a 2 run HR. Rick Poland lead the Dodgers with 3 hits.
Cards 13 – Astros 12
The Cards edged the Astros with a run in the bottom of the 7th, after holding the Astros scoreless in the top of the 7th. Nate Leech provided the power with his 4 for 4 day including another HR. Bob Holbert and John Barrett were 3 for 3 for winning pitcher Ken Semmel. The Astros got 4 hits from Joe DeGeorge and Marty Petretti.
Brewers 15 – Reds 13
The Reds made a late charge, but to little to late. Both teams had 20 hits, but the Reds committed 2 errors in the bottom of the 6th allowing the Brewers to escape with the win. Pitcher Gary Luck got lots of support from the ever steady hitter Tom McGann (4 for 4). Jim Creed and Tom Ramberg had 3 hits each. McGann and Ramberg each had a round tripper in the first inning. George Kennedy had 4 hits and Andy DeLuise had 3 hits including a HR for the Reds.
Braves 14 – D-Backs 9
Braves pitcher Emil Notorantonio remains unbeaten after 2 games. Manny Sanchez, Mike Scuito & Marv Wolfgang all had 2 run HR’s for the winners. Three players had 2 hits each for the D-Backs.
Padres 16 – Mets 14
The Padres took advantage of an error with 2 outs in the 4th by scoring 5 runs. They also pushed across 2 runs in the 7th with 2 outs and pitcher Mike Guadagnolo shut the Mets down 1 – 2 – 3 in the 7th for the win. Tim Carroll, Brian Feldman & Bob Roth each had 3 hits. Feldman also had a HR. Tim Healey, Bill Dodenhoff, Duke Dutkiewicz and Tom Ledoux had 3 hits for the Mets.
Cubs 15 – Angels 0 (6 innings)
The Cubs ripped 28 hits while pitcher winning Tom Gilewski held the Angels to only 6 hits. Bob Fuhst and Herb White led the Cubs with 4 hits each, while 4 other players had 3 hits. Ken Atkinson and Ken Myers had 2 hits each for the Angels.
Royals – Rockies
Game postponed due to wet field conditions. Will be played at a later date.
Giants 16 – Nationals 11
Pitcher John Ashby got the Giants their first win of the season. After trailing 9 – 8 thru 4, the Giants put up 8 runs in the last 3 innings and held the Nationals to 2 runs. Ron Rowe led the Giants with 4 hits including a HR. Bill Hofmeister and Paul Lewis had 3 hits each for the Nationals. The Nats turned 2 DP’s, but it wasn’t enough to hold the Giants down.
Phillies 10 – Pirates 7
Pitcher Gary Arnold got the win in a close game. The Phillies were trailing 5 – 4 after 4 innings, but piled on the max 5 run limit and added 1 in the 6th for good measure. The Pirates could only manage 2 runs in the 6th and were held scoreless in the 7th. Ken Link, Dick Spensieri, Dick Rondo & Gary Arnold had 2 hits for the Phillies. Jim Glover, Craig Dahlquist, Jim Staub, Bud Sheerin, Clair Auchey and Whitey Greb had 2 hits for the Pirates.
