If you were concerned about the legality of Red Light Cameras then your state of mental anxiety will increase exponentially at the possibility of a heavily armed police force of semi sentient robots clunking around in heavy metal boots, a badge and enough fire power to quell a riot. Set in the purported crime ridden city of Detroit, the congress and the population are about to decide if a robotic police force will be authorized for deployment in the United States. The focal point of the decision making process is a police officer whose body has been decimated by a car bomb but whose head and brain remain functional. The test is to build a mechanical body around the still functioning head and brain with the objective of an almost indestructible, but still capable of thought and emotion, semi mechanical police officer. The cast consists of Peter Weller who starred in the AMC dark police drama titled The Killing as RoboCop, Samuel L Jackson as a strong proponent of a robotic police force, Michael Keaton as the without scruples CEO of the robotic company and Gary Oldman who is the doctor responsible for the humanization of the Robocop. The movie is an exercise in questioning the limits a society is willing to go to protect itself. It explores the ability of creating life without morality, judgment or emotion. The message and the lessons learned may be to much to expect in the simple creation of a “tin man”. Rating: BTTDB = Back To The Drawing Board
