Villagers at Pinellas Plaza and Brownwood Paddock Square were looking skyward Sunday afternoon at a thick black plume of smoke.
The smoke was coming from a burning house in Wildwood that was actually the culmination of a three-day training exercise being conducted by Sumter County Fire Rescue.
The house was unoccupied and had been donated for training purposes, said Brian Tucker of Sumter County Fire Rescue.
The first two days of training were spent practicing rescues, search and recovery in the home.
On the third day of training, the house was set on fire.
