Sumter County sheriff’s deputies arrested a 31-year-old woman on a drug charge Wednesday morning near Pinellas Plaza.
Julie Christine Varnum of Clermont was pulled over by deputies on County Road 466A near the new shopping plaza in The Villages. Deputies determined she did not have a driver’s license as it had been suspended in November for failure to pay child support, according to the arrest report.
Deputies determined Varnum was acting nervous so they brought in a K-9 unit to check her vehicle. The search turned up a small amount of methamphetamine, a digital scale and a pipe used for smoking methamphetamine, according to the report.
She has been charged with possession of methamphetamine, with intent to sell/manufacture/deliver, and driving with a suspended license.
She was taken to the Sumter County Detention Center were bond was set at $11,500.
