Green was the color of choice Friday evening as the Irish took over Lake Sumter Landing Market Square.
E.G. Colin of the Village of Buttonwood was sporting a big hat and beard in honor of the day.
“I wore this to play Pelican golf course today, and I will be wearing it to play Lopez tomorrow,” he said.
He confessed that he’d gotten plenty of curious looks out on the course.
There was all of kinds of music and fun throughout the square.
Villages traditions like the Sounds of Scotland, the Perseverance Brass Band and the Villages Twirlers and Drum Corps performed and a tent down by the lake offered traditional Irish music.
Katie and Johnny with Marcille Wallis and Friends thrilled the audience in the tent with their Celtic dance.
If you missed the fun you have another chance to get your green on Tuesday at Spanish Springs Town Square.
The Resident Parade Committee will stage the Irish American Parade beginning at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday. The parade will be followed by an Irish festival in the square.
It had been scheduled for Monday Spanish Springs Town Square. The parade has been postponed until Tuesday due to approaching inclement weather.
