Petrina was sworn in as a United States citizen Friday morning.
By that evening, Petrina was performing and partying with her friends in The Villages.
Petrina, a native of South London, moved to the United States in 2008 after waiting nearly 13 years for a Green Card.
In early February she took her United States Citizenship Test.
She remains a British citizen as well.
“Once you’re born a Brit, you’re always a Brit,” she said.
A big crowd came out to the patio at Bonifay Country Club to congratulate Petrina.
Linda and Art Rowe of the Village of Briar Meadow were among those who came out to celebrate with Petrina.
“We love her. She’s got such a great personality. It’s great to see her become an American,” Linda Rowe said.
