Stamos Pothews, 86, The Villages, FL died Monday, March 17, 2014. He was born in Athos, Greece and moved to The Villages 12 years ago from Miami, FL. Mr. Pothews was a former corrections officer in law enforcement and a Navy veteran of World War II. He was a member of Village View Christian Church, American Legion Post #347, the Fraternal Order of Police, the Greek Club and Honor Flight. Mr. Pothews was preceded in death by his daughter Mary Ann Kearney in 2009. Survivors include his wife Helen Martin, The Villages; son John Pothews, Rootville Center, NY; brother Angelo Pothews, Montague, Long Island, NY; sisters Fran Hilborn, TN and Althena Malloy, Delray Beach, FL; 3 grandchildren. A graveside service will be held at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, FL on Monday, March 24, 2014 at 9:30 AM.
