An 18-year-old was arrested on a charge of driving under the influence following a single-vehicle accident at 1:11 a.m. Friday at Santa Fe Crossing shopping plaza on County Road 466 near The Villages.
Justice Jerome Gainer of Sarasota was arrested by a Sumter County sheriff’s deputy after his car jumped the curb and went through a fence and into an embankment on the westbound side of County Road 466 just east of Morse Boulevard, according to the arrest report.
Gainer told the deputy he had been driving and texting his girlfriend when the accident occurred, according to the arrest report. He also admitted to drinking liquor, the report stated.
