Spring break and summer vacations are prime times for visits from Villagers’ adult children and young grandchildren — a treat for all concerned. Residents from surrounding communities also take their little ones to The Villages.
Memories are made across the generations with scheduled Camp Villages programs designed to educate and entertain our smallest visitors. Parks, flower gardens, impromptu restaurant lunches and the Lake Sumter boardwalk are all attractive to family and friends.
Ask any child what they like about visiting Grandma or Grandpa in the Villages, and you are likely to hear “hugs,” “swimming,” “ice cream” and “riding in the golf cart.” The Lake Sumter lighthouse, the Spanish Springs fountains and the western-themed Brownwood cowboy sculptures are so unique, they are not likely to be soon forgotten when the children return home.
Kids, like grownups, are naturally drawn to bodies of water and wildlife. Feeding bread to seagulls or ibis and casting fishing lines along our pond banks can be good fun — but a note of warning to parents and grandparents: please don’t forget that alligators abound in Florida’s bodies of water, and the sea reptiles can swim and run very fast.
Gators generally keep to themselves and feed well on fish and pond vegetation, but danger can lurk near nesting sites. So, please, enjoy our water features, but do so with care and caution. Even small gators are not harmless and larger ones can inflict serious injuries. Always be aware, and keep a safe distance from shore lines and tall grasses. Your summer fun, and even a life, can depend on it.
Camp Villages Easter Week activities will kick off on Monday and continue through Thursday, April 17.
The popular program aimed at grandchildren will offer Easter crafts, field games, a golf car scavenger hunt and an Easter Egg Hunt.
Activities will be offered at a host of locations throughout The Villages. Tickets are available through all Villages Box Office locations.
Camp Villages is put on by the Villages Recreation Department.
