Village of Springdale resident, Lisa Woodward, is thrilled to be exhibiting her fine art in a one-woman show entitled From Lisa to You at Ocala’s Freedom Public Library. “My work impressed some people associated with the library and they invited me to exhibit my paintings,” Lisa said, somewhat surprised at her good fortune.

Lisa’s avocation was spurred at the age of 10 by an oil painting class she attended with her Aunt Marg. Basically self-taught, Lisa has attended many art workshops in North Carolina, The Villages Lifelong Learning College and through art organizations in Florida. She has received many awards and her creations can be found in many private collections.

Painting has given Lisa a whole new way of looking at the world around her, She creates art mostly from her imagination  but sometimes paints from life or a photo reference. She expresses her feelings about a subject using line, color, texture and happy accidents. A colorist — her primary medium is watercolor, but she also paints with acrylics, inks, collage and mixed media.

Experimenting is her favorite activity and Lisa says she never paints the same thing twice. Recently her work has been moving more toward the abstract and abstract expressionism, One particularly striking piece, painted in predominantly warm shades, is entitled Out of this World. It features planet-like globes floating in a dramatic, surreal space with bold cloud-like waves. The longer one peers at this work, the more levels of meaning it can evoke.

Born in New York City, Lisa lived in the Big Apple for 32 years and in Raleigh-Durham, NC for 32 years. After retiring from a research career with pharmaceutical giant Burroughs Wellcome, Lisa said with a smile she would like to spend her NEXT 32 years in The Villages!

“I thank God for whatever talent I have,” said Lisa, who is grateful for all the opportunities she has been given to pursue her art career. Her work can be seen at Gallery East in Belleview, Florida, and at the various exhibit venues in The Villages. She is a member of the Florida Watercolor Society, the Leesburg Art Association, the Ocala Art Group, the Villages Art League and the Visual Art Association in The Villages.

From Lisa To You can be seen during regular Freedom Public Library hours at 5870 SW 95th Street in Ocala. Her show may be held over past its scheduled closing date of April 30.
