The Village Center Community Development District has purchased a Segway for Lady Lake police officers to use to patrol Spanish Springs Town Square.
The VCCDD has paid for the purchase and will pay for any maintenance. The Segway will be stored in the fire station on the Historic Side of The Villages.
Chief Chris MicKinstry said the Segway would help the officer on duty to proactively patrol the area.
An officer will transport the Segway back and forth over the golf cart bridge across U.S. Hwy. 441/27.
Lady Lake police officers have tested a Segway over the past few months in Spanish Springs Town Square.
