Gov. Rick Scott said he plans to veto a bill that would raise the speed limit on some sections of the state’s highways from 70 to 75 miles per hour.
Scott said Tuesday that he will “stand with law enforcement” who urged him to veto the legislation that narrowly passed the Florida Legislature.
The governor said he attended the funeral last Thursday of Master Trooper Chelsea Richard, 30, killed on duty May 3 along with a tow truck driver and the driver’s friend, when a pickup truck veered onto the shoulder of Interstate 75 near Ocala.
State Rep. Marlene O’Toole voted against raising the speed limit increase. The measure won narrow approval in the legislature.
