The McDonalds at Colony Plaza shopping plaza reopened Thursday afternoon.

The McDonalds at Colony Plaza shopping center in The Villages reopened Thursday afternoon after being closed throughout most of the day for health code violations.

“The health and safety of my customers is my top priority, which includes operating a safe and clean restaurant. I have taken immediate action to address these concerns and they have been resolved. Our restaurant is open to serve our customers,” said Mark Babalian, the owner of that McDonalds restaurant.

According to the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation, the McDonalds was shut down Wednesday after dead roaches were found under a sink, on the cookline and near the mop sink. There were also living roaches discovered near the sink, water heater, chemical storage room and the cabinet front counter. Live flies were also discovered in the kitchen.

McDonalds’ employees Thursday morning were using their personal vehicles to block access to the restaurant’s parking lot.

Employees were in the parking lot telling members of the public the restaurant was closed, but offered no explanation as to why.
