The Fruitland Park Charter Review Committee is officially recommending that the city move from at-large to district representation.

The recommendation will be delivered to the Fruitland Part Commission at its meeting Thursday evening.

The committee is not recommending the composition or boundaries of the new districts. The drawing up of the districts would come after a vote on the referendum to change the charter. If the commission approves of the recommendation, the vote on the referendum could take place this November.

Fruitland Park is bracing itself for the onslaught of new citizens that will come with the construction of 2,000 new homes in the Villages of Fruitland Park.

The recommendation is for five districts and for the mayor to be chosen by the commission from one of the districts.

On Tuesday evening, the charter review committee held a public hearing on the recommended plan. The meeting was largely attend by sitting commissioners and some members of the public.

There was a public comment period, but no one stepped up to the podium.
