A 75-year-old Villager was arrested on a charge of battery following an incident Friday night at his home in the Village of Ashland.
A Sumter County sheriff’s deputy was called to the home at about 9:30 p.m. Friday and met with the victim who said that Stephen Owen Hopkins had grabbed her by the neck.
Hopkins was gone when the deputy arrived. However, the deputy was able to contact Hopkins by phone and they agreed to meet at the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office annex at Morse Boulevard and County Road 466.
At the annex, Hopkins told the deputy he had had enough of the victim’s “mouthing off” so he grabbed her by the back of the neck and told her to stop, according to the arrest affidavit.
He was transported to the Sumter County Detention Center.
