Margaret “Peg” Gammardella, 86, of The Villages passed away Friday, June 27, 2014. Peg was born in New Jersey and lived there most of her life before retiring. She split her time between her beloved Vermont and Florida. She was a truly friendly and outgoing person, she never met a stranger. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren had a very special relationship with her, enjoying their time at the beach and the lake. She was very interested in their daily lives and activities. She and Frank traveled extensively. During her time in The Villages she belonged to the Irish American Club and Auxiliary of American Legion 347.
Peg was preceded in death by her husbands, John Forrester and Frank Gammardella; parents Henry M. and Margaret Burke Doherty; sisters, Mary Perry, Nora Becker;brother, Henry Doherty and three sons-in-law, John Boyer, Wayne Schmaler and Andrew Cardinale.
She is survived by her three daughters, Maureen (Edward) Kazelesky, NJ, Peggy Cardinale, NC and Diane Schmaler, NY; seven grandchidren and twelve great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 2 – 4 PM Monday, June 30, 2014 at Hiers-Baxley Funeral Services, The Villages with a prayer service at 3:30 PM. A funeral mass will be held at 8:30 AM, Tuesday, July 1, 2014 at St. Timothy’s Catholic Church. A reception will follow the service from 10 AM – 12 PM at Hiers-Baxley Funeral Services, 1511 Buenos Aires Blvd., The Villages, FL.
