One of their favorite methods of entering a home is through the telephone.
Sumter County Sheriff Bill Farmer has one piece of advice – just hang up.
“If someone calls pretending to be law enforcement, just hang up,” the sheriff said. “If someone calls asking you to wire money, just hang up.”
It’s part of an ongoing effort by the sheriff to educate the public on awareness when it comes to suspicious calls.
The No. 1 warning sign? Be suspicious if the caller wants money.
The sheriff works in partnership with Seniors vs. Crime. The two share office space at the annex at County Road 466 and Morse Boulevard in The Villages.
