A Villager’s concerns about pedestrian access at the Santiago gate off El Camino Real has prompted an order to perform a survey at the location.
Robert Kraus of the Village of Santiago told the Community Development District 2 supervisors that he fears the lack of pedestrian access at the gate could pose some serious dangers.
He cited a neighbor who recently had knee replacement surgery and has to walk in that area.
“Make this fix before an accident happens,” Kraus urged.
CDD 2 Supervisor Nick Jones agreed with Kraus’ assessment of the situation.
“It is outrageous,” Jones said. “He is not exaggerating the danger of that intersection.”
He said the situation is made worse by impatient golf cart drivers who get backed up at the intersection.
Sam Wartinbee of District Property Management said that to make room for pedestrian access, the irrigation would need to be adjusted and crews would have to cut out the end column of the existing sign wall and rebuild it.
The district only owns sufficient property to make the change on the exit side, Wartinbee added.
CDD 2 supervisors ordered a survey of the location and will discuss the matter again at next month’s meeting.
