Although there are few details about when the new Sharon Morse Performing Arts Center will be completed and ready to usher in new shows, much progress is evident.
Attractive aluminum extensions at the rear of the building will allow entrance and egress. Elevators are being installed, and the beautiful stained glass windows are in the process of being temporarily removed, while the original window art is sent out for restoration and repair.
At the present time, nothing substantial has been built on the interior of the edifice, and it’s too dark inside to take
anything but shadowy photographs. There will be much more space backstage for actors and stagehands, and the stage will offer a lot more flexibility for the creation of attractive sets. A spokesman for the builders projected a lot more of the interior will be shaping up in three or four weeks, with electric wiring installed — but he would not reveal the estimated date of completion.
Snowbirds returning to The Villages in the next few months are sure to be surprised at the progress on the facility.
