The Village of Duval has been rocked by word-of-mouth and email reports of a woman attacked Saturday evening in her home on Persimmon Loop.
It has been confirmed that Sumter County sheriff’s deputies had been called to the home at 7 a.m. Sunday to a report of a burglary and assault.
The 65-year-old victim told deputies that a man had entered her home and attacked her. The woman said the man had locked her in a closet before he left her residence.
The woman was later admitted at The Villages Regional Hospital not for injuries suffered in the attack, but for an unrelated medical condition. The woman has two daughters, including one who lives in the area. A neighbor who visited the woman at TVRH on Wednesday, said the woman is preparing to move to a rehabilitation facility.
The victim has given varying descriptions of the attacker, including his age and race, but has always described him as clean shaven, according to the sheriff’s office.
The victim had been in a golf cart accident in April and was already nursing injuries from that mishap, the neighbor indicated.
Sumter County detectives have interviewed neighbors in search of clues in the incident. The investigation into the incident continues.
