Villages High School basketball star Eric Turner has committed to play for the Wyoming men’s basketball team. On Wednesday, the 6-foot-5, 195-pound forward pledged to become a Cowboy.
“It was the coaching staff and the environment,” Turner told the Casper Star-Tribune on why he made his decision. “When I went on my visit, it was so much better than what I expected.”
Turner averaged 24 points and seven rebounds per game last season as a junior, earning a three-star ranking from ESPN. He also received scholarship offers from Texas Tech, George Mason, Houston, Charlotte, Central Florida and Florida International.
After taking an official visit to Laramie during the Aug. 1 weekend, Turner narrowed his college choices to Wyoming and Florida International, the Star-Tribune reported.
“It was pretty hard, because Florida International is right here by my house and everything. Wyoming is far away,” Turner said. “But when it came down to it, I had to choose Wyoming. It was a better basketball situation.”
He will join the team in 2015.
