The new surveillance cameras installed at gates in The Villages are being monitored in real time at Community Watch headquarters.
The new cameras are connected by fiber optics to Community Watch. The information is monitored on 24 screens by Community Watch personnel.
A brief update on the cameras was provided at Friday morning’s meeting of Community Development District 2.
“It’s a high-interest item,” said CDD 2 Supervisor Bryan Lifsey. “That’s what people are talking about and want to know more about.”
The old cameras were connected via phone lines and modems. The new cameras also are not susceptible to the weather interruptions like the old cameras, District Manager Janet Tutt added.
The high-resolution images could be useful in tracking down those damaging gate arms.
