Dennis Hannigan of the Village of Dunedin was checking out the menu Monday morning at McAlister’s Deli, soon to open in Brownwood Paddock Square.
He zeroed in on a dish called “Pot Roast Spud” which is loaded with tender beef post roast and carrots smothered in gravy.
“That sounds really good,” he said.
So there’s a good chance he’ll be back in a week when McAlister’s Deli formally opens its doors in the chain’s first-ever location in The Villages.
The new restaurant is owned by franchisee Abundant Endeavors, Inc., which plans to open five additional locations in Central Florida over the next several years.

To celebrate, the first 25 guests who visit McAlister’s Brownwood each day from Dec. 8-12 will receive a free McAlister’s Famous Sweet Tea™ tumbler and all tips collected during the first week will be donated to the Wildwood Soup Kitchen. Additionally, there will be a ribboncutting ceremony at 9 a.m. on opening day, Monday, Dec. 8.
“The Villages is known as ‘Florida’s Friendliest Hometown,’ making it the perfect location for McAlister’s Deli and our family-friendly environment,” said Abundant Endeavors, Inc. owner Bryce Kelly. “We look forward to introducing the community around Brownwood Paddock Square to everything McAlister’s has to offer — from our delicious sandwiches and Famous Sweet Tea™ to our spuds, soups, salads and desserts. We hope to see everyone in the restaurant when we open on Dec. 8.”
The McAlister’s Deli in The Villages will serve guests Monday – Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 10:30 a.m. – 5 p.m. For more information, please call the restaurant at 352-399-5934, or visit its Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/pages/McAlisters-Deli-Brownwood/848708378475505.
