The El Santiago Pool.
The El Santiago Pool has been identified by AAC member Carl Bell as a possible site for a covered pool.

The Amenity Authority Committee is moving ahead with a study by District staff of a possible covered swimming pool.

A large group of Villagers showed up at Wednesday’s meeting at Savannah Center in anticipation of discussion of the topic.

District Manager Janet Tutt said District staff would look into existing facilities and possible options.

Staff will come back next month with a general overview of a process to come up with facts and figures, Tutt said.

“We will be looking at everything from the simple expenditure of a shaded cover to a major expenditure of possibly a new pool,” Tutt said.

Those facts and figures won’t be available next month, but the process will be outlined, she said.

AAC member Carl Bell has been the champion of this project and said he was pleased to see movement on the issue of a covered pool. He has indicated that he believes El Santiago would be the ideal location.

“Asking staff to look into this doesn’t mean we are definitely moving ahead. It means we are looking into it,” AAC Chair Ann Forrester said.

In addition, some residents at Wednesday’s meeting also complained that they believe the swimming pools are too cold. Residents said that conditions such as arthritis necessistate warmer temperatures.

Forrester asked that part of the study look into having the pools’ “mean” temperature boosted to 84 degrees.
