Francis ‘Frank’ Michael Killea

Francis (Frank) Michael Killea, of The Villages, FL, “A fine broth of a lad,” and a long-time resident of both Rosebank, Staten Island, NY, and Glenbrook in The Villages, FL, died on Monday, May 18, 2015 at the age of 87 in Cornerstone Hospice, The Villages, Florida. Mr. Killea was a graduate of PS 41 and McKee High school. He played baseball for McKee and football for Our Lady Queen of Peace teams. He served in the US Navy during WWII on the then brand-new aircraft carrier USS Princeton, one of three vessels so-named over the years. Mr. Killea was a surface (bus) operator for the New York City Transit Authority on Staten Island from 1947 until his retirement in 1987. He was a parishioner, vestryman, and usher at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Rosebank where he also helped with repairs and fundraisers. He played softball for the Paramount Grill in the 1950’s and 60’s. He was an avid fan of the NY Giants, the Mets, the Knicks and the Rangers, even after he moved from NY State. He also enjoyed jigsaw puzzles, all types of music, dancing anywhere and anytime, and was known for his sociability and sharp humor. His first wife, Marilyn Ruth Smith, died in 1999. He moved to an active retirement community, The Villages, Florida in 2002, where he enjoyed golfing, gardening, woodworking and membership in The Villages Woodworkers Club, Yesteryear Kart Club, Staten Island Club and American Legion Post #347. He was a parishioner of St. George Episcopal Church in The Villages. He is survived by his second wife, Camille, his two daughters, Meredith Gail Intreglia and Dorothea Killea-Meaney, their husbands, Joseph Intreglia and Lance Meaney, three grandsons, Scott Meaney (and granddaughter-in-law Mary Alice Franklin-Meaney), Richard Meaney, Robert Intreglia, a granddaughter, Marielle Meaney, brother, Edward Donal Killea, and numerous nieces and nephews. If so desired, donations in Frank’s memory can be made to “Villagers for Hospice,” 601 Casa Bella Drive, The Villages, FL, 32162 or the “American Legion Operation Comfort Warriors” program at: The American Legion, Donation Processing, PO Box 361623, Indianapolis, IN 46236-1626. A visitation for friends and relatives will be held on Friday, May 22, 2015 at 11 a.m., with a service to follow at 12 p.m., at Hiers-Baxley Funeral Services located at 1511 Buenos Aires Blvd, The Villages, FL, 32159.
