Winn-Dixie bag boy accused of pocketing $400 from cash register

A 17-year-old bag boy at Winn-Dixie at Pinellas Plaza in The Villages has been arrested on a felony charge after he allegedly pocketed $400 from the cash register.

Wildwood police were called to the store on Saturday where the manager told the officer one of his employees had been taking money for about a month.

The manager noticed that on several occasions cash registers were coming up short.

A review of video surveillance showed the employee, a juvenile, approaching an unoccupied cash register, punching in a code and removing money, according to an arrest report from the Wildwood Police Department.

“I had some financial issues, so I saw this as an opportunity to handle it,” the juvenile said in a written confession.

“I regret what I have done and now I have messed up my life,” he added.

On Sunday, the juvenile was transported to the Wildwood Police Department for processing.

A criminal history check revealed he had no prior criminal history.

Contact was made with the Department of Juvenile Justice where the determination was made to release the juvenile to his parents.
