
David L. Whalen, age 79, of The Villages, FL passed away on Monday, June 8, 2015 at the Villages Regional Hospital. He was the husband of Jane C. Whalen for 32 years.
Born in Bay Shore, NY he was a son of the late Harold and Evelyn Whalen. He was a graduate Martin County High School, Stuart, FL and the United States Merchant Marine Academy, Kings Point, NY. Prior to his retirement he was a Mechanical Engineer for the Department of Defense in Annapolis, MD and Panama City, FL. David and Jane moved to The Villages in 2007 from Panama City, FL. He was a member of St. Timothy Catholic Community, The Villages, FL. He played the French horn in the New Horizons Band in The Villages. He was Past Treasurer of The Bands of The Villages. He was a past member of the Bay Wind Band and the Gulf Coast Community College Band and Orchestra, Panama City, FL. He is a past-president of National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association, Florida Federation.
He will be deeply missed by his wife Jane and sons: David Whalen and his wife Terri, and Douglas Whalen all of Tehachapi, CA and daughter: Kathy wife of Douglas Crum of Wesley Chapel, FL and step-daughter: Lisa Kiefer of Leesburg, VA. He is survived by 7 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. He is also survived by brothers: Harold Whalen and his wife, Evie of Tavares, FL and Donald Whalen and wife Connie of Stuart, FL and sister: Sharon wife of Charlie Greenlees of Stuart, FL. A private Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
