Thirteen women were inducted into the John Bartram DAR Chapter.

Sheri Hudson, regent of John Bartram DAR Chapter of The Villages, inducted 13 ladies into membership in the National Society of Daughters of the American Revolution in a special ceremony May 19 at Eisenhower Recreation Center.

Each new Daughter received a corsage, a gold toned DAR initial pin and a swag bag as well as congratulations from chapter members for proving their patriotic lineage.

The inductees are Sandra Purcell, Peggie Shore, Trish Waldemayer, Eileen Steele, Maureen Donahue, Doreen Bussone, Mabe Fink, Sylvia West, Rita Rhodes, Tracy Lanteigne, Mary Cochran, Becky Howerton and Tommyeann Belch.

The Society and its members promote education, historic preservation and patriotism through all forms of community service.  Women interested in finding a Revolutionary War Patriot and joining DAR may call Past Regent Carole Ann Peskin 352-751-2423 for information and genealogical assistance.  Newcomers to The Villages are cordially invited to transfer their membership to this local chapter which meets the third Friday of every month at 10 a.m. at Eisenhower with an optional luncheon.

In addition to monthly meetings, in the past year chapter activities have included participation in Colonial Days and a parade, presentation of books to elementary schools, Wreaths Across America procession, a visit to Athena House for female veterans, donation of magazines and floral centerpieces to The Villages VA Clinic, a historic preservation fund-raising musicale, group attendance at the July 3 patriotic band concert benefiting Tampa’s Fisher House for hospitalized veterans’ families, awarding a college scholarship. honoring a high school historic essay prize winner and collecting Christmas stocking stuffers for abused and neglected girls at a residential DAR supported school.
