
Olyn T. Guice III, of The Villages, FL, passed away. Born in Gulfport, Mississippi, February 26, 1941. He was a graduate of Starkville High School, Starkville, MS, and as a pre-law student, he graduated from Mississippi State University in 1963 with a B.S. degree. He received an ROTC Commission in the U. S. Air Force and served 20 years with assignments as Security Police Officer (Little Rock AFB, AR), Missile Combat Crew Commander and Operations Officer (Minot AFB, ND) with responsibility of transition of launch capsules from Minuteman I to Minuteman III missiles. Served 2 yrs. on the island of Guam in support of the Southeast Asia conflict, one year isolated tour in Thailand, and a short assignment at Fairchild AFB, WA. Also he served as Combat Arms Instructor at MacDill AFB, FL and Keesler AFB, MS. After retiring as a Captain from the U.S. Air Force, he was Facility Manager of Starkville Allied Enterprises, a Mississippi Vocational Rehabilitation Center. Later he was appointed Administrator of Saint Andrew Manor, a Presbyterian Retirement Home in Starkville (now Board Town Village). After serving nine years with the Mississippi Department of Corrections as Probation and Parole Officer for Oktibbeha County, he retired in 1996. During the time he lived in Starkville, MS, he was active in community organizations and served as President of the Retired Officers Association, Tombigbee Chapter; President of the Exchange Club; Member of “Men for the Master” inter-denominational retiree Christian vocal group; He was a member, Elder, and Chancel Choir Member of First Presbyterian Church, and President of Presbyterian Campus Ministry Board, MSU. After moving to The Villages, FL he enjoyed playing golf and activities of The Villages Woodworkers Club, The Villages Motor Racing Fan Club, Heart of Dixie Club, and Retired Military Group . He enjoyed singing for the Lord. He loved his family dearly, and was a man of peace always trying to find solutions to problems. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. O. T. Guice, Jr., a brother, Charles Edwin Guice, and a daughter, Martha Carol Guice. Survivors include his wife, Janice Pennell Guice of The Villages, FL; two children, Mary Catherine (Cathy) Dees and husband, Tom, of Olive Branch, MS, and Lara Kay Lillis, of Leesburg, FL; six grandchildren, Ally Dees, Amelia Dees, and Austin Dees and Christopher Lillis, Mary Lillis, and Zsusanne Lillis; sister, Mildred L. McElya , of Friendswood, TX; brother, David L. Guice and wife, Julie, of Huntsville, AL.; brother-in-law, Joe Pennell and wife, Merry; several cousins, nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be held at the Faith Presbyterian Church, 3984 CR214, Oxford, FL 34484 at 10 a.m. on Thursday, 8/6/15 followed by interment at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, FL with Full Military Honors provided by the U.S. Air Force.
