Pastor Rafael Cruz, father of Republican presidential candidate U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz, was the guest of honor at a luncheon held Monday at Francesco’s Ristorante in Baylee Plaza.
Throughout the lunch, Cruz gladly answered questions, analyzed the issues America is facing, and discussed his son’s White House bid.
A traveling, non-denominational preacher, Cruz began by noting that today’s pastors are hiding behind pulpits and are afraid to tackle political issues within churches, which Cruz calls a situation “contrary to American history.”
The most serious issue that churchgoers wish to hear and discuss during services is abortion, according to a survey that the pastor noted. He went on to denounce abortion as an act of murder and said that Planned Parenthood, after watching the notorious videos that exposed the organization, “should be prosecuted.”
Cruz pointed out that defunding Planned Parenthood was one of the many issues his son is fervently fighting for during this campaign.
When asked about his thoughts on the restoration of diplomatic relations between the U.S. and Cuba, Cruz called it a “disastrous decision by the Obama Administration.” Suffering under the oppression of Cuba himself, Cruz began his argument by stating that Cuba had been an exporter of communism for more than 50 years and is still involved in international communism today.
Along with the decision to open relations between Cuba and America, the Iran nuclear deal is another “disastrous decision” made by the Obama Administration, which Rafael calls it “treason.” He revisited his son’s answer on the GOP debate wherein his son stated that the first thing he would do when elected into office would be to “rip to shreds this catastrophic Iranian Nuclear Deal.”
Cruz also spoked Monday night to the Villages Conservative Action Group meeting at Mulberry Grove Recreation Center.
