With snowbirds returning and traffic already picking up in The Villages, congestion at the Del Mar Gate is likely to be on the rise.
Increased traffic may ratchet up pressure on the Amenity Authority Committee, whose members have already been feeling the heat from residents eager to see some resolution to the situation at the busy gate near Spanish Springs Town Square.
On Wednesday morning, the AAC is scheduled to hear from Kimley-Horn & Associates Inc. about a possible solution. The District engineer’s latest figures put the cost of a possible gate expansion well in excess of $100,000. District staff will be looking for future direction from the AAC.
The majority of AAC members appear poised to move ahead with spending the money.
However, AAC member John Wilcox has advocated increasing the presence of Community Watch at the Del Mar Gate and using personnel to speed up movement through the gate at high-usage times, such as the monthly Cruise In and at the conclusion of events at the Sharon L. Morse Performing Arts Center.
