To the Editor:
It’s nearing the end of open enrollment for choosing a health plan and the United Healthcare Medicare Advantage Plan fell short on coverage. I would like to share my point of view so that you can consider your choice from another angle than the one continually shared by The Villages Health System and published in The Daily Sun.
It’s not a horrible insurance plan if you’re pretty healthy. But what happens if you suddenly find you’re not healthy after all?
My husband had no idea he was about to find himself in that position. The result was fewer choices in where he could go for rehab following his severe stroke and what doctors he could see. No Freedom Point, The Villages Rehab and Nursing Home or The Club. He could go to Arbor Village, Avente in Leesburg, some in Eustis and other distant places. When the hospital personnel were helping me find a place that would take United Healthcare Medicare Advantage Plan, they told me to get my husband back on regular Medicare and get a supplemental plan when I could and to let my friends know. Consider your choice carefully!
